Your Credit Union in The Community

Spiritwood Credit Union
Commitment.   Prosperity.   Community.

Spiritwood Credit Union Limited is very dedicated to the communities in which is serves. To show our appreciation for the area of which we live, the Credit Union is a constant at community events, be it in personal volunteerism, or monetary donation. Here are just a few examples!

Pink Shirt Day

The staff at the Spiritwood Credit Union helped raise awareness about bullying on April 4, 2012 by wearing pink. Pink Shirt Day originated in Nova Scotia in 2007 when two high school students took a stand against bullying. They asked all of their peers to wear pink to school in support of a male classmate who had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The result was a grassroots campaign that has attracted worldwide attention.

Dollars and Sense Program

Tammy and Ron from the Spiritwood Credit Union taught the grade 8 classes of the Spiritwood high school the Dollars with Sense program which is part of the Junior Achievement program. This program inspires Canadian and Saskatchewan youth to succeed in the global economy. The Dollars with Sense program which is designed for this age group starts them thinking about money, what it can do and how to achieve goals.

Anthony Radke and his mom, Gail.

In support of Breast Cancer, Spiritwood Credit Union sponsored the black jersey which Anthony Radke wore during his Meadow Lake Stampeders Midget AA game on February 19.

In total, sponsors bought 23 black jerseys that the team and coaches wore, and 25 pink jerseys the moms, girlfriends, sisters, and other ladies wore. They were later all auctioned via silent auction.

$7,250.00 was raised at the silent auction which was given to Janet Hnatow & Craig Barclay to help with the costs of Janet's treatments. Janet & Craig's son, Graeme, is a defenceman on the Meadow Lake team.

Family Literacy Day

In support of Family Literacy Day held at Spiritwood Library on January 27, staff of the Credit Union donated their used books to either be utilized on the Library shelves or sold. Spiritwood Credit Union donated $200.00, bookmarks and activity pages, as well as cookies for the attendees to enjoy through story time.

Telemiracle Bake Sale

Spiritwood Credit Union staff personally baked and donated cookies, cakes, pies, and all sorts of other scrumptious goodies in support of a bake sale February 14. Proceeds of which will go to Telemiracle. Thanks to the generous nature of our community, $609.25 was raised!

Skate-A-Thon

In support of Spiritwood Arena and The Spiritwood Skating Club our General Manager, Wayne Reed donated his time and effort in a Skate-A-Thon back on February 23.

Even though Wayne hasn't been on skates in 20 years, there's no doubt he proved himself a real sport. In doing so, pledges to his support raised $562.00.

Even better, the Spiritwood Credit Union generously matched that of all pledges, which means we donated an extra $2500.00!

Of course, the afternoon would not have been complete without a handful of Wayne’s fellow staffers there to support him. Alice Rempel, Janine Pool, and Sharon Schaan were there to cheer Wayne on.
